Does anyone remember those McDonald's apple slices with caramel dip that you used to get with a Happy Meal? I was never a big fan of those because the caramel was too sweet for me. This tahini and yogurt-based fruit dip reminds me of that, but it's so much better because it's only lightly sweetened. It goes great especially with tart apples like Granny Smiths.
Vegan tzatziki sauce is a creamy, tangy, and delicious dip made from coconut yogurt and cucumbers. This dip adds a Mediterranean flavor to your favourite recipes.

Coconut yogurt is a fermented dairy-free alternative that adds creaminess and a subtle tropical flavor to a variety of dishes. It serves as a delectable base for breakfast parfaits, smoothie bowls, and overnight oats, offering a probiotic-rich and nutrient-packed kickstart to the day. In savory applications, it lends a tangy and velvety element to dressings, dips, and marinades, enhancing flavors in salads, wraps, and grilled dishes. Additionally, coconut yogurt’s velvety texture transforms it into a luxurious component in desserts like creamy vegan puddings, frozen yogurts, and tangy fruit-based treats, making it a valuable ingredient for both the health-conscious and culinary explorers seeking innovative and indulgent creations.
Is coconut yogurt healthier than regular yogurt?
Coconut yogurt and regular yogurt offer distinct nutritional benefits. Coconut yogurt provides healthy fats but lower protein content compared to regular yogurt. Regular yogurt, particularly Greek yogurt, is rich in protein, probiotics, calcium, and other essential nutrients that support gut health and bone health. For those with lactose intolerance or ethical concerns, the downsides of consuming dairy can be avoided by opting for coconut yogurt, while those seeking higher protein intake may lean towards regular yogurt or other options like soy yogurt.
How long does coconut yogurt last in the fridge?
Generally, unopened containers of commercial (storebought) coconut yogurt can last anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks in the refrigerator past the “sell-by” or “best-by” date on the packaging. Once opened, coconut yogurt typically remains fresh for 7–10 days when stored in the refrigerator at or below 40°F (4°C). Likewise, homemade coconut yogurt should be consumed within a week. If you notice any signs of spoilage, such as an off smell, mold, or an unusual appearance, it’s best to discard the yogurt.
Is it OK to freeze coconut yoghurt?
Yes, you can freeze coconut yogurt, although the texture may change upon thawing due to potential separation. Some brands of coconut yogurt can simply be stirred to get them back to their original consistency; other yogurts may need to be blended in a blender to restore the smooth texture. Keep in mind that while freezing can extend its shelf life, the texture of thawed coconut yogurt may differ from its fresh state.
